TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Already the first All-American in Texas A&M-Corpus Christi history, Shadrack Songok became the Islanders first two-time All-American Monday at the NCAA Cross Country Championship finishing 19th in the 10,000-meter race in a time of 31:23.

 

BYU’s Josh Rohatinsky won the race by eight seconds over Stanford’s Neftalem Araia. Rohatinsky finished in 30:44.9.

 

Songok, who last June earned All-America honors in outdoor track with a fifth-place finish, was four seconds off the leaders time at the mid-point with a time of 15:23. The sophomore, who ran a time of 29:40 to win the South Central Region, was 30 seconds behind with 2,000 meters remaining.

 

Songok was again the top runner from the Southland Conference crossing the line 10 spots ahead of Lamar freshman Francis Kasagule. He was the second runner from the region to cross the line trailing only eighth-place finisher Peter Kosgei of Arkansas, who finished in 31:04.
