Heard Institute Natural Science Training Program

Announcing a New Program

Carrying on a 40-year tradition, the Heard is pleased to announce the new Heard Institute Volunteer Training Program. It is a training program that seeks to promote awareness, understanding and respect of the natural world. The Heard trains volunteers in the many facets of Natural Science so they may share that love of nature with the thousands of guests that visit the museum year-round.

The Heard Institute brings people and nature together by:

  • Fostering an appreciation and respect for the natural world through meaningful educational experiences in biology, ecology, geology and paleontology

  • Promoting ecological stewardship and leadership

  • Introducing the natural history of Collin County and increasing scientific literacy

  • Serving as a community resource by providing a place where people can enjoy birding, hiking and exhibits

Each year, Heard trail guides lead and teach over 40,000 school children on the nature trails. The Heard Volunteer Guild and the youth volunteers provide priceless help with the museum’s special events. Eagle Scouts complete many projects on Heard nature trails every year. Volunteers are an amazing part of the heart of the Heard Museum.

The Heard is looking for volunteers that would like to train as Trail Guides, Night Hike Guides, Garden Guides, Exhibit Docents, Nature Store Associates, Live Animal Caregivers and many other available opportunities. Youth Volunteers must be at least 14 years-old to volunteer at the Heard Museum.

If you are looking for a place to become part of a team and have fun learning about nature then you may be interested in becoming a Heard Volunteer. Visit www.heardmuseum.org for more information and to print a volunteer application. E-mail Schelly Corry, Volunteer & Training Coordinator, at scorry@heardmuseum.org if you are interested in volunteering.
